What is calisthenics?
Calisthenics is a unique Australian artistic sport that combines:
- Gymnastics and Apparatus (clubs & rods) performed to music
- Ballet and Dance (modern & folk)
- Singing and Drama
- Marching in formations

What to expect at calisthenics
WEEKLY CLASSES- Classes are ran in accordance to the school terms including the holiday period. Our pupils learn set routines each week to its own musical theme. Your child will learn between 4-7 different routines depending on their age group. Routines include March, Clubs, Freearm, Rods, Aesthetics, Folk/Character Dance, Action Song, Song & Dance, Rhythmical Aesthetics and Calisthenics Revue. Our emphisis at class is all about having fun!
COMPETITIONS- The routines that are learnt in class are then performed in a team on stage. During the competition season (July-October) our pupils perform in 3-5 competitions depending on their age group. Competing clubs are matched by level and age group.
CONCERT & PRESENTATION- Our Annual Concert is held at the end of the year in November to showcase the hard work of our pupils to their family & friends. We also hold a special presentation night where our competition medals are awarded to pupils who performed during the competition season.
What to bring & wear to calisthenics
All pupils are encouraged to bring a healthy snack and a water bottle to each class. Girls are expected to have their hair tied back off their face and to wear a black leotard, black leggings/tights. In the cooler months a crossover top can be worn over the leotard. Boys are to wear shorts and a t-shirt. Calisthenics is performed in bare feet, therfore no footwear is required.
